@mnactr Goodye Mr. Chips is available on DVD--I bought it about a year ago.

@mnactr Actually, Leslie Briccusse re-used the song in his musical, SHERLOCK HOLMES, in the late 80's, early 90's, which never made it to Broadway. BAKER STREET was on B'way in 1965.

Great film, I had never heard of, then watched by accident on TCM one afternoon. Quite stunning. Of course, with music by Leslie Bricusse and John Williams, how could it be anything else.

The musical remake of "Goodbye Mr. Chips" will never come close to the magnificence of that 1939 film with Robert Donat & Greer Garson. One of the greatest films I ever saw and Donat's Oscar was most certainly deserved.

@veraswimming , I stand by my comment and by the way, I love Petula's voice.

@39rc6cf I would not compare them. Two different things. Both beautiful.

@mnactr There is a 3 CD set available featuring all the music from the film Goodbye Mr Chips, try Amazon.com
Will they EVER release this wonderful soundtrack on CD? Is this film available on DVD yet? I love this version of the story. I believe this song was lifted from this movie in inserted into the Sherlock Holmes B'way musical BAKER STREET.

@mnactr The S/T was released a few years ago, as a 3CD set from Film Score Monthly. Well worth the money, you can still buy it as far as I can see. And I didn't know about the song being recycled for that musical - which sounds appropriate.

Wonderful number from a sadly neglected film. hope upon hope it is released in UK before long - it is in the States, SO WHY NOT HERE??

It keeps being 're-scheduled'. Fingers crossed a DVD will see the light of day.
