Story by David Reid for BBC World showing how to clone Europe's new "secure" e-passport.
Many thanks to Lukas Grunwald for demonstrating how unerring faith in this technology is misguided.

  • It's not even about security. It's just about tracking everyone. A few fraudsters isn't going to cause the system much of a problem when all the rest can still be tracked so easily. Total information awareness - total control. It's all electronic, so is makes the system much more efficient and inhibits our ability to stop the tyranny.

  • It's not about what is hidden, it's about how you don't actually NEED to have the passport physically stolen or lost, It can be digitally stolen and reproduced. Same with the Mastercard Paypass, and the Enhanced driver's licence, With things like these, People carry everywhere, and probably not without the protective sleeve issued to them. It's not about what you have to hide from the government, it's about hiding from thieves.

  • There is nothing hidden ffs, it's just the same info on the details page.

Why people believe that the aliens are out to get you is beyond me.

  • I would assume that everything is breakable. including that someone would be able to figure out how to edit the information if they haven't already.

  • It's the specific Standard, it's the ISO 14443B standard, they're all about that price, give or take. but certain ones are simply better than others to reading these chips.

  • how is it that the americans can buy an rfid for $8, but Lukas here buys his for 200 euros.

  • An absolute pile of nonsense.

The only information that can be gleaned is the same information you can get by walking into any GRO office.

Also, they cannot change any information on the chip, including the photo.

    Paranoid drivel.
