The original singer of this song called it her hardest one. I agree for myself.

Years without vacation, only work no play
My adrenals let me know they were dying to get away
Too much stimulation, day after day
I'm planning my escape on a cheap airline plane

I can't wait for the time on the plane with its tiny seats and yummy microwave meals
Arguing at customs, dragging heavy gear
sitting next to smelly neighbours thank God the end is near

Sleeping in, no alarm clock, no stressful work routine
For too long it was only a dream
I can't wait for a change, for a different scene

Strudel, breads, all kinds of gourmet foods
Rote Gruetze, cake made of cheese
Here are the things I've missed that make me feel good
Foods you can only eat in Germany
Adventure parks, fewer cars and more bike paths
beautiful buildings, streets full of trees
many are old cause they were built to last
quality made in ol' Germany

Cycling through a forest, going for a swim
in a lake or in a pool no matter what city you're in
no such thing as boredom, too much to do
in any kind of weather, the choice is up to you

All the differences that could be part of my own life if I only made up my mind
Facing big decisions, waiting for the time
when there's no more hesitation, when moving back seems right

Falling asleep, sleeping deep, complete darkness
waking up to muesli with quark
Trivial things that are so fundamental
things that set places like Germany apart
Environmental laws, higher standards,
when it comes to most things in life
make me want to surely abandon
Canadian culture so that I can thrive

Every picture of natural places
Every memory of city spaces
Every flashback makes me face it
Every time I that I remember
What I've loved seems like forever
It occurred to me like never
Had to see my life in contrast
to what I'd always had

If you're German and lack appreciation
for the privileges you call your rights
take a look beyond your own nation
realize elsewhere many must abide
longer hours, lower pay, less vacation
poorer health care, less leisure time
people in debt for higher education
living it might make you change your mind

  • You sound so perfect on the easier parts and on the harder parts you still sound great. I can see how it could be hard to sing in some parts. all around great job. and fun to watch video :-)
