Cannae - 216 BC, the famous battle of the Carthaginian Punic military commander, Hanibaal.

The First Punic War (264 - 241 BC) ended in victory for the Romans, their peace terms demanded the permanent Carthaginian withdrawal from Sicily & annual payments of tons of silver to Rome. In 238 BC Carthage was obliged to relinquish control of Sardinia to Rome, which was the price for it's neutrality in a bitter war that had flared up between Carthage and its disaffected North African mercenaries.

Blocked in central Mediterranean, Carthage turned it's attention to Spain, New Carthage were established in 228 BC. In 219 BC Hannibal attacked the town of Saguntum (a roman ally) and initiated the Second Punic War (218 -- 201 BC)

Actually he spoke Turkish in this film, all others spoke Arabic (Tunisian accent). funny i know but the content is great nonetheless. i might upload the whole film soon :)

why does this movie show the wholesle wearing of mail in 200bc (roughly) when it had only been invented for about 50-100 years or so. Well celt invention that the romans had just grabed hold of. mail was very labour intensive to make, that made it very expensive. most troops would not have had this armour at this time. it would have been the elite troops. by the 13th century then plate came to the for but still mail was dearer to make.

in the capital Tunis, they made a study, 20% of the people have the phoenician gene. we are a mix of everything actually but mainly berbers and phoenicians in the north and arabic in the south. so yes hannibal was not an arab as we are not also... we are not from saudi arabia originally we are north africans, and want it or not but hannibal and the carthaginian civilization is a part of our heritage,

Mrfalangist, if you knew the history of our country (tunisia) you should know that we are arabs by culture but not ethnically... our people are a mix of original Berbers (amazigh) then came the phoenicians, mixing with berbers created the punic carthaginian empire. Then the romans came, then the vandals, and then the byzantines took it back, the arabs came after and arabized and islamized north africa during 300 years, then the turks came and finally the french.
