Judy Garland appeared on the Merv Griffin Show twice in 1968. First, she was a guest on Merv's show and the other guests included Rex Reed and Mort Lindsay. Second, she hosted the show when Merv when on vacation, guests included Margaret Hamilton (wicked witch from OZ), Moms Mabley, others. THe video of these two shows has never turned up.... but thanks to 8mm home movies, we have rare footage of these two wonderful shows...SUPER RARE!, soundtrack added includes songs Judy performed on these two occasions.

  • I couldn't agree more. When you listen to the audio's she was still capable of mesmerizing an audience. She had some incredible performances very late in the game there are some nights at Talk of the Town and at the Lincoln Center Arlen tribute she sounds like 10 years earlier. Unfortunately people like to only remember her bad nights. There will never be another in her league, she is still missed.

  • More to a voice than how perfect it is. On her worst day she's better than most on their best day. thanks for posting.

  • wow thanx... Judy is wonderful!

  • 4:26 - 4:27 judy smiles and rests her hand on her cheek and u can tell she is having a ball..

  • I am so glad this clip is still on Youtube.. Too bad there isnt a master tape of her two appearances on Merv Griffin Show. I would have loved to see Judy converse with Mort Lindsay her old conductor and Margaret Hamilton and I would have loved to have seen Judy's face when She asked Margaret Hamilton to do her Wicked mean laugh like the Wicked Witch of the West.. The audience really responded when she did..

  • wow Judy was the great performaces!

  • Judy Garland is still the Greatest Entertainer & I am fed up with everyone who writes about her really attacks this lady's character whether if its about pills or alcohol. This Legend was also a real live personwho had real feelings & flaws. Even 41yrs after her death, She still outshines even her daughters. Judy had an extremely rare gift to touch people which is why she's still famous. Yet her troubles are emphasized much more than her Triumphs. Those triumphs are why she is still popular!

  • absolutely marvelous! i have the silent film and the audio tape buy you have blended them wonderfully!

  • She sounds bad. Its sad poor Judy God blees her soul

  • I don't know a performer who had such a sense of humor or wit. Her voice was going but her ability to mesmerize an audience was astounding even late in the game.

  • looking at her behind the desk acting like the host, makes me wonder if she may have been better off doing a talk show - she had such an incredible wit and it would have been so much less stress on her that having to do the variety show each week. I bet she would have been great at it!

  • The network probably wiped the video tapes. This was common until the mid 1980's for many shows. Sadly they will never be seen again. This is kind of like a kinescope without sound and is probably the only copy anywhere of this rare footage. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
