Jan Matejko

Jan Matejko (also known as Jan Mateyko; July 24, 1838, Kraków, Poland -- November 1, 1893, Kraków, Poland) was a Polish painter known for paintings of notable historical Polish political and military events. His most famous works include oil on canvas paintings like Battle of Grunwald, paintings of numerous other battles and court scenes, and a gallery of Polish kings. He is counted among the most famous Polish painters.

I love Mateko, I would sit for hours in the Wasaw museum looking at the Bitwa pod Grunwaldem and each time see details I didn't see before. His paintings expressed so much love for his beloved country, so much respect

for it's fight for independence and national pride.
