As a Detroiter, this hits all too close to home. I love historic buildings mainly because we will NEVER build structures as beautiful as this again. I am sure the train station off Michigan avenue will soon meet a similar fate. How sad indeed.

Fabulous tour of my old favorite concert venue i saw KiZZ and Ted Nugent many others on this very stage live for $5.00 unbelievable beauty in that building was destroyed sad very sad ,the land mark alone is worth restoring it . who does the No brain thinking in Detroit's historical society ?

We spend money for wars while national treasures like this decay and are lost.
We dislike the French(not everyone), but they have managed to save most of their historic and national monuments....and they live close to their aggressors. Let's stop financing unnecessary wars, and giving aid(we do this not for humanitarian reasons, but to further our own interest anyway) to countries that don't need it. The French are not cowards, just smart.

Beautiful footage. I document drive in theaters, and seeing these images of the remnants of this great theater has me in awe. I'm not sad. I'm happy remnants remain, kind of like a snack bar or screen in the middle of no where, the shell of the MICHIGAN remains. In Lansing Michigan, the belcony of our MICHIGAN THEATER remains. 22 parking spaces occupy the former auditorium space, also saved, the winding staircase by the snack bar. Jackson, MI saved their MICHIGAN THEATER.

What makes this even more painful is that whoever gutted it for a parking garage, left the ceilings intact not for a shred of preservation, but because it would have been more money to replace them.

Saw the Rush and Kiss concert. I remember the holes in the ceiling opening to drop imitation snow down on the audience. After the concert we walked back downtown to catch the tunnel bus back home to Canada. THere was no fear of downtown Detroit then ....................and that was a long walk for a 14 year old.

It makes my heart sink when I see this kind of thing happen. I worked for an architecture firm a few years ago and they had to turn a very ornate yet run down church into a homeless shelter and basically gut the place and put in a drop ceiling in the middle of the large main area to save on heating costs. They said they hate doing things like that but they're forced to all the time. We need to save as many of these buildings as we can before America turn into a giant strip mall.
