Valery's Ankle explodes the spectacle of hockey violence and its representation in North American media. Taking Bobby Clarke's breaking of rival Russian star Valery Kharlamov's ankle during the 1972 Summit Series as its departure point and site of research, the film uncovers a disturbing history of unforetold and abject Canadian behaviour.

  • Clarke's two-handed slash was a cheap shot that influenced the outcome of the series. Outclassed by the CCCP team, Team Canada had to goon its way to a win. I have not looked at hockey the same way since.

  • Dude, he was their best player. As a Canadian myself, I totally disown team Canada's victory and would have booed the bums if I was there.

  • @folkrelic I haven't looked at hockey the same since Gary Bettman turned it into a rigged wrestling match.

  • My favourite moment in all of sports history. Bobby clarke is my hero

  • It had to be done. Canada had to win and every player on the team knew it. He was given a job to do by the coach and he did it.

  • @folkrelic Russians were doing the same thing. Still a cheap shot, should have been banned from the game for it imo, but doesn't change the fact that russians were also doing the same shit to canadians. Learn your history, thanks.

  • @Xatarnak No, you. Have to stoop to personal insults, huh? Sad.

  • @Mineav go back to school u fuken gooffffffffff!

  • Meh...If Orr was playing the series would've been 7-1 for Canada. Orr was the best player in the world, and Canada still won without him. Kharlamov missed one game, and after that he came back, not missing a beat, and looked as good as ever (pain killers and cortisone shots to wonders). So I guess the main arguement is that Canada won by taking out ONE Soviet player, very late in the series. That's pretty weak, but I guess when you blew it like the Soviets did, you need some excuse, poor or not.

  • Most Canadians are proud of this series I am ashamed of it

  • Canadians are proud of this series it should be an embarrassmentbecause we cheated. Clarke should have been jailed and banned from hockey, it is even worse than what Tonya Harding did to Nancy Kerrigan because he did in it on a huge stage. he was a terrible GM and piece o s***. the world would be a better place without scum like him

  • Too bad the quality of this film clip is so poor....
