THE SCOTTISH Conservatives took to the streets yesterday, targeting members of the public with leaflets demanding answers to Edinburgh's tramworks fiasco.

The leaflets - distributed by Scottish Conservative MSP David McLetchie and Councillor Iain Whyte - raise questions over how the tramworks will continue to be funded, and whether Princes Street will be open during Hogmanay and the festival.

Princes Street, normally Edinburgh's busiest shopping thoroughfare, remains closed to traffic during continuing work on the trams.

Conservative MSP David McLetchie said: "This sorry saga has dragged on for far too long and people are rightly sick of the whole affair.

"They deserve answers, which is why the Scottish Conservatives will be asking the tough questions.

"The leadership of Edinburgh Council needs to stop hiding behind TIE and take responsibility for this situation because the public deserve nothing less."

  • The Tories voted for the trams. Hypocrites

  • @steven102255 Totally agree. You just have to take a look at the railway franchising system to see that our "privatised" railway is nothing of the sort. In fact, there's even more DfT meddling than there was under British Railways, and look where that got us. Let railwaymen run the railways!

As for this tramway clusterfuck, if they hadn't ripped up the tram lines in the first place, we wouldn't be in this mess.

  • David McLetchie - absolute legend.

  • The SNP wanted to dual the road between Perth and Inverness, but the Unionist parties got together and voted to have trams in Edinburgh instead.

  • Politicians should keep their noses out of things they don't understand..........like transport.
