  • Actually, Mr. Knightley needs to be stern. Emma's so strong willed that she runs over everybody. With her mom dead and her father senile, she has grown up as a spoiled brat with only Mr. K strong enough to make her behave herself and grow up into the delightful woman she's capable of being. The challenge is for him to manage the change from parental figure to lover, so you see him struggling with that right until the very end.

  • I don't think Miller stays true to the character of Mr Knightley; he probably is more loveable or sensitive to appeal to our modern audience...not the audience in Austen's era.

Also, the comment about holding Emma at 3 weeks old was mentioned in the book. Her and him have a giant age difference and it does seem a bit sick at first but again it's just another difference in the era. Just like how Juliet was only 13 when she met Romeo.

  • @iHeartAniime He could have been 2 or 3 years old and held her in his arms. Even 10 years would not be too weird.

  • "I held you in my arms when you were 3 weeks old" . . . . does anyone else find that an exceedingly creepy thing to say? I mean, just before you plant a big romantic kiss on someone, isn't that just the weirdest, creepiest thing to say to them? ~Shutter~

  • God, Knightly gets more tail in Emma's imagination then he actually does in real life.

  • @abeautifulnightsky I know it does sound creepy; BUT it is true!! It was in the book; he tells her that in the book.

  • somehow this scene makes their relationship seem really gross... "i held you in my arms when you were three weeks old" seriously? this is the moment you want to bring that up?

  • I'm sorry guys but I don't like this dude at all :(

Not the way he is too harsh nor his looks nor anything...

He's not at all the Knightley I always imagined while reading the books!

The closest one to THAT aspect is to me Miller... Sensitive still harsh sometimes, loving... This Knightley seems too forward, too angry, I don't know...

  • its the truest version of emma so far and holding emma when she was 3 weeks old is in the book

  • @marshsundeen But he did say that he first fell in love with her when she was 13, which is still pretty creepy.

  • "His aunt is in the way! His aunt dies!" wow.

  • to me the best version of emma, mark strong is the best knightley ever, exactly as described in the book. and kate beckinsale is a perfect emma, cheeky, a bit full of herself at first, but also warmhearted and full of goodness... great acting, too!
