My name is Mike Partain and I was born on MCB, Camp Lejeune N.C in 1968. During my mother's pregnancy, we were exposed to drinking water which was highly contaminated with VOCs including PCE and TCE. As a result of my in-utero exposure to these contaminates, I and my mother have had various health problems through out our lives. Last year, I was diagnosed with Male Breast Cancer. Since September, I have located 4 other men who were also at the base and develeoped the same disease. Male breast cancer is very rare and is strongly associated with herediatry breast cancer and found in older men. I was 39 at diagnosis and I have since tested negative for the hereditary breast cancer gene mutations BRCA 1 and 2. If you were at the base between the late 1940's through March 1st, 1987. Please visit our website www.tftptf.com (the Few, the Proud, the Forgotten). TCE and PCE are linked to breast cancer in both men and women.

I was at CLNC and we used industrial solvents, one called dry cleaning solvent, which was provided to us without any special instruction or protective gear.
Taking into consideration Mike's story, and the many thousands of others including my own leukemia, the title of my big screen movie would be:
The Making of a Liar: How the Marine Corps Trains Base Commanders & Future Commandants.
I lived in Jacksonville in the early to late 80s when my father was stationed at Camp Lejeune. I developed Osteo Sarcoma in 1981 and lost my left leg at the age of 12. The cancer came back in 2004 and I went on to lose my right knee, left shoulderblade and right lung, ...I am still fighting the cancer. After hearing about this, it seems that this clearly was the cause. I really wonder if anyone is ever going to be held accountable for this. Mike, my heart goes out to you, buddy.
My little sister died in 92 from excessive allergies.. the antihistamines she was on caused her to fall asleep while driving. She was always sick growing up, and she was so young while we lived there. camp lejeune 1983 - 1985
Dear Mike, I am moved by your story and full of admiration for you and Margaret who are fighting the good fight. I hope you are staying healthy and cancer free, and that you can continue this important work, while surviving all of life's other challenges. Your friend from Winter Haven High, Class of 1986, Marybeth
Update July 22nd, Since this story ran in April we have located 10 additional families in North Florida and 3 in South Georiga. There are a total of 5 men besides myself who were at the base and now have breast cancer. Mike
