  • I think you already have a loose grasp on your spelling of the word lose...

  • hey, it's been a while but I just heard a story today and remembered discussing the health care system on youtube and thought of your comment about Ontario :)

A friend of mine had to go to the hospital recently with a piece of metal stuck in his eye. He had to wait 3 hours before getting any attention. Every time I go there I see nurses talking or just not doing shit, with people sitting in the waiting rooms with broken bones or pneumonia or whatnot. The system is sicko in Quebec too man.

  • If you are sick and try living in the American system, you better be very wealthy.

Unlike the girl in the commercial, my wife's trip to the emergency room wasn't denied because she didn't get it preapproved. It was denied because the only paramedic service in our county (run by the city) is "not in plan."

I think there would be an outcry by every Humana customer; but most folk don't need an ambulance.

The only solution here in the USA is a one-payer system.

  • private-public health care is a terrible idea it only benefits the rich people who can afford it not for people who have limited income..the worst health care is in ontario canada..nobody seems to care about their patients anymore..you are only a number to them, there are never enough doctors to go around, not to mention the fact that anytime you get any tests done regardless of how the person is, the outcome is always the same "YOU'RE FINE, GO HOME" is what is being said to patients

  • Now, your mileage may vary a lot. I live in Quebec, and from what I can see the system is not doing well. It still works for the most part, but with the aging population we must look at more options than just blindly throwing money into it, and I think a private-public partnership like I've described is a damn good idea

  • Of course this kind of system is advantageous for the richer, but I think in the end beneficiaries of the public health system can win from its reduced financial burden, plus you still have 100% coverage.

  • The problem with the system in Canada is about cost (and incidentally, lack of personnel -- it is linked). The kind of proposal that's on the table right now is _not_ to throw away universal health care and put health insurance companies in its place, but rather to give the option to pay for your treatments if you can.

  • I think you guys have to take the private thing in Canada with a grain of salt. Sicko makes it pretty clear that the problem is HMOs, or more simply that since you're dealing with an insurance company, your win is their loss, and vice-versa.

  • Let's hope it doesn't spread easy! I hope health care professionals will stand up against it.
