An ALIE Project from Denmark in Authentic Learning:

INTERDISCIPLINARY FARM PROJECT

The student normally takes part in a 2 month M1A agricultural introduction program in the agricultural school followed by a 12-18 month internship program on an approved training farm before attending a 5 month M1B at an agricultural school.

Assessment: Interdisciplinary project in which the students show their ability to analyse and work out a short-term production plan and economical budget on a specific farm.

Time frame: One week

Learning aims: Learn to analyse data collected from different sources. Make a SWOT analysis for the farm. Co-operate with fellow students and the farm and industry. The students use the SWOT analysis to optimise the production result and show the effect in the budget of the farm.

Role of the teacher: The teacher acts as a coach or consultant.

Role of the student: To act as an independent and self responsible student who is responsible for his/her own learning process.

Role of the business: To be willing to accept visits of the students, to answer relevant questions from the students and to share all relevant data needed for the project.
