More evidence from John Huarte's incredible Heisman-winning season of 1964. The Stanford "Indians" visit South Bend for a game against the Fighting Irish in 1964. Highlights narrated by Lindsey Nelson.
Even though ND finished the season 9-1 they still earned a share of the national championship when the National Football Foundation voted them #1 and awarded them the Mac Arthur Bowl which is emblematic of the N C,but because of ND's consesus policy they don't "offically" recognize this title,at least not yet!
The Stanford "Indians!" I'm sure that the old robber baron whose ill-gotten gains funded the establishment of this "farm" would have approved of this mascot.
Back in those days I enjoyed watching these ND highlights on NYC television. He was also the voice of the Mets. A great reporter who did his job with great passion for the sport and for the teams.
