@GaraGambini Abraham was called the rock, the apostles are called the foundation stones. The bible refutes your attempt to absolutize a common methaphor.
Simon's name was changed to Peter = Kepha = Cephas used several times in scripture. The word means rock. There is no other way to translate.
Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith, the rock of our salvation. Let there be no doubt about that. Peter is His prime minister (Read Isaiah 22 to understand Jesus words in Mat 16).

There is nothing Protestants can say that defeats Matthew 16, where Jesus says to Simon: "You are Rock, and on this Rock I will build my Church." Now certainly, we ALL know that CHRIST is the Rock. So what was happening in this passage? What did Jesus mean? Why would He change Simon's name to Rock? It was to illustrate that He was making Peter the visible head of the Church on earth. Christ made it clear that by naming Simon Rock, He was giving him awesome authority and responsibility.

uhm...i'm from a catholic school but most of our teachers for religious studies and christian morality are protestants, even baptist and evangelical ministers...to tell you the truth i have never heard any of them complain or mention about the issue you are claiming in your comment, i have brought this subject up in their discussions and non of them support what you are claiming and they even regard your comment as "fundamentalistic and with no regard to historical fact".

@GaraGambini Jesus GAVE Peter his name (Matthew 16:17 - 19). One who is a leader is mentioned more than others, Peter is mentioned most in the Gospels (195 compared to John - mentioned about 26-30 times). When listing the Apostles, Peter is ALWAYS mentioned first - indicating a pre-eminence (leadership) position. It was Peter who ratified (made firm or comfirmed) the decision of the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15: 1- 29 spec. v7-11).

@yarrw The Bible was written in the languages of the day, which included both Greek and Hebrew. Peter is referred to as Peter (Petros) where the passages were written in Greek and Cephas (Ke'pha) when the passages were written in Aramaic. Also, Paul (formerly Saul) Identifies himself as a Roman Citizen, which concludes he would have known Latin. Therefore Greek, Latin or Aramaic, Jesus still called Peter the Rock on which the Church would be built.

@junmeskie Its bible-verse-cherry-picking of the worst kind. Pay no attention to them, they obviously have less sense than the more intellectual protestants who have made their way home to the Catholic teaching of the faith.

The rock in Hebrew is Sela as found in the Psalms. Petros is the Greek for rock. As far as I know, Jesus(Jehoshua strongs concordance 2424) and the disciples spoke Aramaic or Hebrew not Greek.
In Acts 24:5 the disciples are called 'the sect of the Nazarene' so they definitely came from Galilee.

Your belief/Church has added to and distorted the word of God tp suit YOUR theology & human traditions.
Start with the 10 Commandments and learn what your Pope did to change them to allow you to worship images & idols.
The Roman Catholic Church deleted the second and split the 9th to make the 10th!
Read the facts!!
God is called the "Rock" 34 times in the Old Testament. It was clearly a title of God.
There is NO OTHER ROCK than God, not even Peter. Jesus Christ is the foundation rock on which the church is built.
"other foundation can no man lay then that is laid which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11.
Peter said, stating that Christ is "the stone ... which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other ... " Acts 4:11, 12.

What is Peter originally name?
Before Jesus changed his name to Rock?
rock is not even a name
Jesus is the builder
a builder who is laying a foundation of his church in a ROCK
A builder cannot be same as the foundation
STOP DISTORTING HIS WORDS to suit your belief or theology

Anyone who believes in Biblical truth, opposes false doctrine and believes that Jesus Christ is the ONLY mediator between God and man cannot subscibe to the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church!

Mediator Part 6 of 6
Jesus is the eternal High Priest, mediating His once-for-all sacrifice for our redemption (Heb 3:1, 7:24, 9:12, 10:12),
and yet Christians are also called to join in Christ's priesthood, as we have seen (1 Pet 2:5; Rev 1:6, 5:10).
Obviously, Christ is the unique and primary Creator, Shepherd, and Priest, but each Christian participates in these roles in subordinate ways.
By sharing Christ's divine life, Christians also share in Christ's role as the only mediator.
