  • the Grand Ophicleide i imagine must be as loud as a ship horn. So the noise of the pipe organ would hurt your ears all the way in the seating area?

  • @Spaceshotx7 I've played it, and from the console it does not hurt your ears at all. It is loud and really cool, but does not "hurt." -Tom

  • Its 130 decibles right next to it so its like a siren, though the room is large anyway though still I bet you cant talk above such a noise when such a large organ plays I know I cant in the larger churches around our area how did you get to play it are you part of the socity I bet they wont let just anyone touch the organ I know they yell at me if one is on in a church and I start playing the keys.

  • @manga12 It is Loud ;-) You should get the DVD or go to the web site and listen to the samples. It is loud, but not annoyingly loud, not to me an organ fan anyway...

I've helped out down there on the removal of the Swell for restoration and I've been on the public tour, plus a private tour. I really recommend the public tour if you ever get the chance.

  • I plan to if I ever get around to it, and when the organ is fully playable and has its grand concert I will try to be there for that.

that explains it, lol Oh just to mention a silly dream I had last year the Lady that I sold organ music for was giving me a lesson on organ playing on the boardwalk organ in a dream now how crazy is that.

  • @manga12 Maybe it means that it will one day work again! Or, it means you have a thing for old ladies..... ;-)

  • @manga12 About your Church organ, you should just ask the organist about it, tell him/her you are interested in it and let them have you try it while they are there. Organs are expensive so people can get touchy about them, but they really should be willing to show it to people that have an interest.

  • Ive played or just pressed the keys with the Grand Ophicleide stop selected and it sounds good. The Curator says that if your inside the chamber it is really loud. However from the stage it isnt so loud, but you can definately tell when that stop is selected.

  • Yea I know but with my limitied skilles I could not begin to make the thing sweat even a little, like a trained organist bringing out all the sounds even on full organ with the cresendo all the way open. I dont pound away on the keys that would be disrespectful.

  • No it just means that I wanted to go to boardwalk hall and like organ music really well at the time even more, and would love nothing more then to get two minutes at the organ consol, of the worlds largest insterment.

  • Its 130 decibles, so it would almost be like a siren going off of course the room is big but still I bet its enough that you could not talk above the sound as it plays even at the back of the room, which at one time was the largest building in the world for floor space when built.
