Ryan Adams with the Cowboy Junkies
200 More Miles

Atlantas a distant memory
Montgomery a recent blur
And tulsa burns on the desert floor
Like a signal fire

I got willie on the radio
A dozen things on my mind
And number one is fleshing out
These dreams of mine

Ive got 200 more miles of rain asphalt in line
Before I sleep
But therell be no warm sheets or welcoming arms
To fall into tonight

In nashville there is a lighter
In a case for all to see
It speaks of dreams and heartaches
Left unsung

And in the corner stands a guitar and
Lonesome words scrawled in a drunken hand
I dont travel past, travel hard before
And Im beginning to understand

That Ive got 200 more miles of rain asphalt in line
Before I sleep
But therell be no warm sheets or welcoming arms
To fall into tonight

They say that I am crazy
My life wasting on this road
That time will find my dreams
Scared or dead and cold

But I heard there is a light
Drawing me to reach an end
And when I reach there, Ill turn back
And you and I can begin again

Ive got 200 more miles of rain asphalt in line
Before I sleep
But therell be no warm sheets or welcoming arms
To fall into tonight

Ive got 200 more miles of rain asphalt in line
Before I sleep
But I wouldnt trade all your golden tomorrows
For one hour of this night

Atlantas a distant memory
Montgomery a recent blur
And tulsa burns on the desert floor
Like a signal fire

  • who's the guy with the harmonica? I think I've seen him on Jimmy Buffett songs.....who's the gal with the black hair?

I can't find the Ryan Adams version on itunes anywhere....anybody know where it is?

  • Jeff Bird & Natalie Merchant . Dunno about Itunes though

  • It's from the Trinity Revisited DVD

  • Search Google for "Trinity Revisited DVD" . You'll find it

  • Can anyone offer a definitive take on what that line is --

"I've got 200 more miles of rain, asphalt [???]/Before I sleep"

    In line?

    And lines?

    And light?

None of those seems quite right to me. "Light" at least rhymes with "night," but the rhyming isn't necessarily that precise.

  • I think it's " Ashphalt and Lime ".

  • I loved the first Trinity Sessions, but I love the Revisted CD even more. Jeff Bird has been touring with them lately. What a talented bunch of musicians. Makes that crap you see on American Idol look like........well, CRAP!

  • My wife was never a Cowboy Junkies fan. By their name she wrote them off as a country group, which she doesn't like. She saw this video (sent by me) and came around. Now she is a fan. While Ryan is not a "Junkie", he helped my wife to appreciate one of Canada's greatest contemporary groups.

  • This was on HDNet on sunday, Great concert, I recorded a bunch of it. Can't seem to find the sweet jane set they did on youtube, That would be my 1st upload!

  • @solvecoagule It's "Light." I like Ryan's vocals too. I hoped Margo would do vocals as this represents more than its 20th anniversary. I've been a fan since I saw them on PBS I believe it was Austin City Limits. Their music has mapped the passage of time in my life & many of their songs are connected to my memories. Experiencing their musical growth with each release in its reflection of that has been indescribably great. Their music grabbed hold of my heart from day one and still does.

  • damn that harmonica is tight! And Ryan, as always, top notch...

  • I've spent a thousand hours listening to "Trinity" and it never gets old. Sounds like Ryan must have felt the same way. He feels every note of that song, and it shows. As for myself, I'd be happy to trade all my golden tomorrow's for one hour with Margo. I'd call that a bargain, the best I ever had.......

  • when was this ?

  • @hystericol it's "Asphalt in line" ;)

  • @solvecoagule I believe it is lights. Picture driving 200 miles on an asphalt road in the rain. Headlights kill your eyes; and it rhymes with night.

  • MARAVILLOSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
