Nozkowskiland
A slide-show devoted to the work of abstract painter Thomas Nozkowski.
Nozkowski was born in Teaneck, N.J., in 1944, and educated at Cooper Union in New York City.
He has consistently worked in a way which places him somewhat outside the main trends in abstract painting for the past 30 years.
His decision to work on a small scale was partly motivated by his radical politics which left him with a deep suspicion towards the institutions and corporate lobbies in which the large-scale paintings of his peers were displayed.
'Nozkowskiland' is the name given by the critic Peter Schjeldahl to the abstract world this work evokes, though as he says in the video, it is often inspired by prosaic events from his daily life.
