aretha's voice is good but she cant touch shirley brown i seen shirley perform last month in nashville and her voivoice is one of a kind hands down

It's really not important who "copied" whom. When Shirley came to Stax in 1974, they were envisioning her as the "next " Aretha. She's a few years younger than Aretha, and Aretha was already singing gospel professionally in her teens -- no doubt Shirley developed her style listening to Aretha. But what better role model could a singer have? Shirely's voice is magnificent and undiminished. As Tommy Couch Jr. of Malaco Records once said: "God don't have angels that can sing as pretty."

@tdwh419 Perhaps she did! However, her voice is much stronger than Aretha's! Aretha has lost much of her power and vocal range! I love Aretha but Shirley is clearly a much better singer... Maybe 30 years ago I could not have made such a statement!
