Nia left Fame half way the final series in 1987. I believe She felt her character was being neglected by the new executive producers. She went to them to try and change things but they didn't want to listen so she quit. They then killed her character off, off screen in the next episode.

Nia was born in 1961 this concert comes from 1984 so she'd be around 23.
