From an old Melodiya LP. This is one of the best versions I have ever heard. Unfortunately, the record was quite worn and noisy, but I did not do much with it cause the original sound of the pianoforte was so wonderful, I did not want to change anything. He has great musicality, a warm touch and is a stunning virtuoso at the same time. A rare combination, and so important for Chopin.

Krainev, born in 1944, is now a professor in Hannover, Germany. The record is from the early 1970s, it must have been one of his first LPs.

  • This is wonderful...thank you for uploading!

  • I bumped into one of Krainev's Mozart recordings by accident and was astonished. Exceptional touch with a balance of force and nuance; agility in the service of interpretation; depth of insight in what he communicates; profundity of emotion without sentimentality... - And his Chopin, indeed the best version I've heard to far. Thanks for posting!

  • Never heard of him before. Certainly a loss for everyone involved by the hear of it.

  • R.I.P.

VLADIMIR KRAINEV (1944-2011), pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus and winner of 1970 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, passed away on April 29 after a long illness.

Sincere condolences to his wife Tatiana Tarasova, the well-known figure skating coach of so many olympic gold medallists.

  • Thank you for uploading this! It's wonderful....

  • @Minkanangis L'intérêt semble évident, et il est ce de partager connaissance; la diffusion d'enregistrements rares aussi en absence d'écran sur YT c'est un des interactions les plus dignes qu'il y ait sur internet...

  • Great playing!!
