July 15th, 2010 - Chasing the Rock Island heritage unit from Ottawa to Joliet, Illinois

After getting word of the Iowa Interstate, Rock Island heritage unit being on the point of a Menlo, IA., originated ethanol train, I got an early start out to Ottawa. Along the way, I heard the dispatcher holding him outside of Ottawa, for J745, CSX' westbound road freight.

I stopped in Seneca, where J745 does its switching and there he was. I was quite happy with the SD40-2 leader. CSXT 8018 and Dash 9 7713 depart Seneca, with blocks to Ottawa Yard.

Z027-14 (MEBI) got permission to head east through Ottawa, about two hours after J745 cleared into the yard. First shot: Crossing the IR diamond.

Second shot: Passing the Rock Island, Marseilles, Illinois depot.

Third shot: Rolling through Morris, IL.

Fourth shot: Highballing through Minooka, IL.

Fifth shot: Passing under the Rock Island signal bridge in Joliet, IL.

Bad track? You should have seen it in the 1970s! We watched trains at Joliet Union Station, and called the Rock Island the "Rock and Roll-and" the swayed so much. Hey, we were just kids lol...
