short selling is not a crime. if anything shorts actually helps give the market an upward pressure when the market has bottomed out. remember, short sellers must turn into a buyer once they want to take a profit. What would happen when there are no shorts in the market? Panic-stricken buyers who wants to cut-losses wont be able to sell their holdings since there are no buyers to offload their stocks to.This would entail market going lower since there are a lack of buyers.
