( NaNoWriMo 2011 ) Day 26.

Good result today, so I'm a happy camper :D I hope everyone else is doing well!

Jaws closed around the back of his neck, but instead of blinding pain and the final crunch that would kill him, the teeth that had come out of nowhere caught at the looser flesh and gave an almighty tug. He howled and thrashed, but the grip and the tug combined sent him tumbling back and out of the den into which they had crashed.

A female had joined the fray, covered in a rich golden brown pelt with paler hair along her throat and belly, and darker fur around her eyes and ears and down the length of her spine. As he watched she rose from four legs onto two, and her eyes, amber like his, did not waver. Like the male, there was something about her that he knew but could not truly understand. She stood so close to the grey male and their scents were so alike that he knew they were mates. They were fighting him together, then.

With a snort of disgruntled intent, he paced back and forth, growling, moving on all fours so he could get all his power behind a charge when they stepped out of the hole they had made. They did, lowering to all fours as well, stepping out together to meet him.

It was towards the female that he lunged. She was smaller, an easier target, and had thought to attack him from behind. It had not been her fight to begin with, and he wanted her gone. Besides, if he tore open her throat in front of her mate, the grey male would lose his mind and his focus with it.
