Sepak takraw (Malay: sepak raga; Thai: ตะกร้อ "takraw"; Lao: ກະຕໍ້ "ka-taw"; Filipino: "sipa"; Vietnamese: "cầu mây")

Earliest historical evidence shows that the game was played in the 15th Century's Malacca Sultanate, for it is mentioned in the famous Malay historical text, "The Sejarah Melayu" (Malay Annals)

Sepak Takraw came both from Thailand and Malaysia and was played by both countries in ancient times. The name is a mixture of Malay and Thai. Sepak means "kick" in Malay and "takraw" means woven ball in Thai. The game changed over the years and the net version that is played now was created by Thais, but Malays have always been involved. Malaysia and Thailand dominate the sport.
