what type of alesis drum kit is that?
NathanRyanAllen 2 months ago
@NathanRyanAllen The drum kit is an Alesis DM6, however the voices are coming from an ancient Alesis HR-16 drum machine. We are recording the drums midi output into midi software called Voyetra pro, we then fix all the double strikes, and make any necessary adjustments, then output the midi through the Alesis HR-16 onto a stereo track on the Tascam.

Great video! I really like the quality you are getting out of the 2488Neo. I do have some questions: Do you run the MXL990 directly into the 2488Neo or use another preamp? I am using an ART Tube pre. Do have a standard mic position you use? Do you use any other effects while recording like compression? I have the same mic and 2488Neo but am having trouble getting a "smooth" vocal sound. I have a voice very similiar to yours but can't seem to find the "sweet" spot. Thanks!

@KenBrockmanMusic I’m just going directly into the recorder with the microphone. I record the vocals dry, and then I add my reverb and any compression, if I use any, on the final mix. As far as the microphone position, I just adjust it until I get the sound I’m going for on that particular song.
Hope this helps.

Great job on the recording! I recently purchased a Tascam 2488neo and love it! I really like the way your vocals came out. Can you tell me what settings you used for your vocals.....thanks....Steve

Steve, I don’t really remember what settings I used. Typically, I record the vocals and most instruments dry, I adjust the microphone position and sensitivity to where I think it sounds best. I will later mix a overall reverb to all instruments and vocals, I usually run to vocals a little hotter on the reverb than the instruments to get the effect I like. I will adjust the EQ settings a little if I think a vocal needs it, but normally I like to keep it the way it sounds.
