zan htoo is tough, he has no skill, speed or reflexes. He just relies on his heart, his jaw and his ability to take hits to the face. Tway had a good game plan, he knew it would be close to impossible to knock zan htoo out from a punch to the face so he went to the body. That shows tway and his club actually go into fights with specific game plans to beat their opponent.
They adopted other material arts but not from other country's one. They adopted burmese Thaing Byawn Byun. Thaing Byawn Byun include all these techanics.
I don't know who named "elephant step, bull rush, bull guard". I left Burma in 1989.I knew WinNaingSein(my friend),WinNaing (Meit),ThaManKyar, BaNit (my relative) who once won to MoeJoe never mention these animal action name.
Thanks to IT.Now I knew LoneChaw,TwayMcShaung. Lethwei improved alot. In 1980s, lethwei got hard time with MuayThai.LoneChaw,Mc Shaung use both left, right kicks & boxing punches. They adopted other martial arts & make perfect to lethwei. So, lethwei isn't in the dark era now.
I started to lethwei in the era of ChitSaYar,MoeJoe,TunTin,KyaungTharGyi.Grown up with the matches of Karate,Kungfu,Boxing with lethwei organized by Tiger BaNying, in the era of ThaManKyar,WinNaingSein,WinNaing(Meit),MgYone,ThaMainByran.I've already left Burma in the era of ShweDuWan,WanChai.
One thing to note. Tway notices leg kicks hurt Zan goes after it (very good). Secondly he notices that body punches hurt Zan as well so he goes after it. So often a fighter will find a weakness in the opponent but doesnt go after it.
IMO Wan Chai was the best. Also Wan Chai had more skills than Tway Ma Shaun. Tway's walk in bull guard takes less skills to execute than Wan Chai's well timed bull rushes.
@54living Only Chris and his deciple BF1 knows these techniques LOL
