Secrets Of CamStudio Webinar Replay

Like it, please! This was my first webinar ever - posted here as much as a record for posterity as for the information contained within! They *will* get better! This one was a little disjointed in places ('cause I was a little nervous and this was completely impromptu), but the information is very complete and contains the answers to many people's questions. I cover video settings, audio settings, sync, the sizer and zoomit add-ons, the auto-stop feature, codecs and their applications, and a ton of stuff you will be happy to place into your brain so that you can get more out of screen recording with Camstudio.

I should mention, this was NOT captured using CamStudio, but rather with the GoToWebinar internal Windows Media Player compatible recorder (as a .WMV file, then edited in Windows Movie Maker Live). So, it is a little soft looking compared to my CamStudio recordings due to the compression they used.

Hi, thanks for that, great work, very comprehensive and please do more. One point, the screens are a bit blurred, the text on the screens can't be seen clearly in Full Screen. But during the bits you zoom in its great. I dont know if this is an HD thing, I tried the the lower settings and they were worse. It is not my computer, I have watched other camstudio videos and they are clear. Just some constructive feedback, I am sure more people would watch this, but great teaching, cheers

@jamesmacambridge Thanks, James - I plan on doing some more soon, so add your email to the signup list at my site (on the "Webinars" page). The compression used by GoToMeeting is frustratingly lossy, I agree. I'll be actually using CamStudio to record next time via my laptop, and will use Xvid at 1280X720, so it will look a lot better! But this was the first for me, so future ones cannot help but become more polished! :-)

Maybe it was Lagarlith Lossless codec that was good for games, but had a 10 minute limit -- oops!

@DOSBoxMom Ahhh - yes, it was Lagarith Lossless. 9.5 minutes with 16-bit (MCI) audio in 32-bit display color, 11 minutes with 16-bit audio in 16-bit display color. I believe that was a 1280X720 test.

My Let's Plays (of the DOS game Curse of the Azure Bonds) have been looking OK using the Camstudio Lossless Codec 1.4. I thought I heard somewhere that Xvid was good for recording games, but only up to about 10 minutes's worth at a time. Since each of my Let's Play installments runs just under 15 minutes (and the CamStudio Lossless Codec seems to be working OK), I haven't rushed to switch codecs (although I've probably downloaded XVid and the other codecs you've recommended, just in case).

@DOSBoxMom I have DEFINITELY gotten better than 10 minutes from Xvid. Actually give it a try - set the quality setting to 1 and go for it! Let me know what you achieve, time-wise. I record 2-hour webinars with Xvid, but they are low-motion. I'm certain high-motion will eat up the available time quicker, but not cut down to 10 minutes, I shouldn't think!

holy hell this is long....im getting a good camcroder tomorrow so i dont think ill need camstudio anymore but this could help people(and maybe me at osme point)

@DOSBoxMom Yes - I mention that one in the webinar video here - also, Papa John (our Windows Movie Maker hero) has experienced good luck with the Freemake video converter for prepping files to edit in WMM and WMMLive.

I've been using Any Video Converter to convert my Camstudio AVI recordings to FLV, which compresses them small enough to upload quickly to YouTube. (My teenage daughter had been using Any Video Converter for a while with her (non-CamStudio) music lyrics videos, and got it downloaded & installed on my computer for me.)
