Mysterious Supermassive Adventures of a Lifetime is an original experimental composition created entirely on the Linux Multimedia Studio - LMMS. LMMS provides a software environment whereby composers can create rhythms, basslines and melodic structures by loops and sequences, positioning them on the Song-Editor, applying effects, then exporting part or complete songs in WAV format for further mixing or editing. LMMS is a freeware program - free for composers to use and experiment with patterns and sequences. For this composition, a grand and bold expression was sought - something that had arisen from the adaption of a previous LMMS song pattern, but drastically altered beyond all recognition. To start, an 88 bpm, 4/4 time signature was composed for the piece. The rhythm section comprised of various kick and bass drum sounds with reverb for effect on some parts. An altered Organic Oscillator Bank patch alternates with a metallic-sounding chord structure, and a subtle slowed-down choir tone pulses in the background. A windchime sample is slowed down to a marked degree and imparted with reverb and auto-panning to create a "bouncing" stereo effect. A percussion loop plays consisting of various snares, cymbals and metallic percussion - all pitch altered. Positive-sounding piano chords (major chord) play a simple melody line at regular intervals. Another sound - consisting of various chirps and tweets, and a slowed-down timbre that actually sounds like a bass piano string creates a secondary rhythm/melody line. Another low-end piano sequence creates diversion, with a high-frequency piano chord creating additional treble reinforcement. The Krakli Cygnus-SF free space synth plays the most eerie three-note chord as a background atmospheric. A chord was memorised, and manually pitch-bent with the pitch wheel in real-time to the LMMS mix. All of the instrument and rhythm elements were exported as separate tracks from the LMMS, with the Cygnus FM chords being the only "live" element. The final mix was realised within Adobe Audition, consisting of ten stereo tracks. The widescreen video was created by a mixture of geometrically-modulating backgrounds keyed behind false-colour cityscape moving still images. The "tunnel" effect was created from an Edius Neo preset and colourised as an added "stargate" or light tunnel. The organic elements are colourised de-focussed cityscape scenes in full or outline representation. The result is a curious and uplifting surreal abstract experience. The colourised cityscape appears almost extraterrestrial, alongside the colourised light-tunnel effect. The golden "Saturn Rings" are particularly eye-catching, along with the "glowing" cityscape with towering glass spires.

  • You are very welcome :-)

    All my best,

    Jeffrey S.

  • you are a visitor from another universe arent you? ;-) more nice work here.

  • Many thanks for this!

It is the very first time I have seriously incorporated piano sequences into the combination, using major chord structures. Believe it or not, this work was a derivative from a previous LMMS composition, but vastly re-organised to all preception.
