  • great video but should you wax and brush the tips of the ski?

  • I've never worried too much about doing anything but the running surface, but it doesn't hurt anything if you want to.

  • Great tutorial!

how do i get the right temprature on the iron?

how do i know its not too hot?

  • Thanks! Some of the fancy irons have a digital thermometer. You can also use an infrared thermometer to check the iron temp. It should be between 110 centrigrade and 130, depending on the hardness of the wax. The easiest way to tell if the iron is too hot though is if the wax smokes when you apply it. That's a no-no! Better too cool than too hot.

  • Worst wax job ever!! First you clean the base of the ski. Then you apply the wax not holding the iron tip on the ski. If the iron smokes it not only bad for you it is bad for the ski. Then you scrape it off until there is no more wax l left on the ski(you barely scraped anything off). Then you brush it tip to tale.

  • thanks for the tutorial and tips!

  • First clean the bases of the skis using citrus base cleaner. Wait a bit after applying the cleaner (a couple minutes) then wipe it off (I generally use paper towel for the first couple of wipes followed by a fibertex nylon pad). Once the bases are clean you can use an iron to apply the wax. You should let the wax cool then scrape it with a plexi scraper. After scraping the wax you should brush the ski (I recommend using a nylon/brass combination brush. Brush with the brass leading. You're done.

  • thanks dan
