I like his vox, but man, I just never got into the pop and slap thing really. As a bassist I can't win. If I don't pop and slap, I'm not considered good. If I try to write cool fills and my own leads, bands don't want it. It makes me think I wasted these last three years I took off from guitar to play bass.

It's kind of pop, but he brings this very refreshing bass into the picture! I'm, of course, a bassist myself:).
But the bass combined with his voice really fills the picture of sound really really nice!
