25mm gun would give the AS4 the firepower to tackle buildings and armored vehicles as well as infantry. Should have gone with an extended 113 like this instead of the plodding RPG magnet known as the Bradley. Those things are easily blown up so the war profiteers receive blood money to make new ones.
@dicktracy34 (continued from below...) ... All far superior to the M113A1... However, the turret is a bucket of shit... No country has an LRV with a single weapon... I have no idea why Tenix didn't license build a turret from United Defence or another company... Tenix had no experience building a turret or any sort, and they have made a very poor product on their first attempt ... I would like to see a 20mm main gun with a 7.62 secondary secondary and 3 way stabilisation... All off the shelf...
Tenix (The company that developed the upgrade) wanted nothing to do with any suggestions that we (the crewman who tested it) had about the vehicle. I bought a book into work with me one day and showed them the amount of turrets developed for the M113 family of vehicles, and they were surprised with the selection... The base vehicle is great. The engine is more than up to the task, the vehicle drives very well across country, and it is quite comfortable to drive...
can I ask a question, I know our Army isnt big on spending a lot of money on offensive capabilities when they're not absolutely needed....by for modern mechanised infantry, wouldnt the Bushmaster cannon on an ASLAV turret be better fitted to the M113AS4 than a 50 cal, I mean other army's do it, turn it into a fighting vehicle as well as an armoured transport. and fit twin TOW launchers to it like on the Bradely...just saying could it really hurt?
