Today the House is considering, HR 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act. The bill creates the TOUGHEST lead standard in the world for children's products, requires mandatory safety standards for nursery products (e.g., cribs and high chairs) and after review for toys, requires mandatory third-party testing of children's products, requires tracking labels to aid recalls, prohibits the sale and export of recalled products, improves public notice, protects rights of injured consumers to sue bad actors, strengthens the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and provides CPSC with urgently needed resources, and bans travel by CPSC Commissioners and staff that is paid for by an organization regulated by the CPSC.

  • My god, quit patting yourself on the back for doing something that could really screw us up royally. I wish these people would do more extensive research into these topics and really think before they act.

What started out as a good idea, turned into a disaster in execution.

  • Will the stay-at-home mom who pays the grocery bill by making and selling hair bows on eBay, or the grandpop who crafts wooden toys to sell at a Blue Ridge Mountain craft shop find the cost of testing so expensive, they will close their cottage businesses and lose their income? Will the law intended to protect the children, which in and of itself is good, bring about the demise of portions of the natural toy industry which led the charge for higher standards long before this?

  • Please view the videos on the handcraftivist channel, and learn about the gross unintended impact that the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 will have on handcrafters, small businesses and artisans who make and/or sell products for children ages 12 and under.

  • These 7 voted to kill Kucinich's bill on 11/6 to impeach Cheney, so they need to CHANGE their positions and fulfill their oath of office to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic: Howard Berman (CA-28), Artur Davis (AL-07), William Delahunt (MA-10), Zoe Lofgren (CA-16), Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), Linda Sanchez (CA-39), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20). Find them online and send emails, make phone calls; Put the pressure on for IMPEACHMENT!
