We're making a portable solar powered USB charger with an LED flashlight, this week. This episode shows how to modify a solar path light into an Altoids tin that can then be a flashlight and charge your iPod in the sun.

  • Cool project. I was wondering about the charge time it would take for that small solar cell to actually charge 4AA batteries? I'm also curious if you don't have a diode in your system if the solar cell wouldn't discharge the batteries as well. Thanks for the great vid.

  • There is a diode already on the solar path light board.

  • Why all that "hook the X wire to the Y wire, etc, etc"?

Why don't you just provide a circuit diagram???

  • where you get the light?

  • Hi

Can you tell me the direction to solder what wires to from a 4 "AA" battery pack to a female usb wired to a LED so the when the LED lights up, i know when it is charging

  • Can u remake this vid but more simple like just making the solar battery charge pack + female usb w/o the LED light cuz that confused me the most....

nice vid but i was lost through it

  • 4-5 hours

  • Very well done! Very neat!

  • i was wondering how long it would take to charge too

  • this looked cool but i had to stop watching-i can't stand this dude's voice
