We were sailing this weta on pearl harbor...it was some pretty good wind and we were going rather fast. While surfing some wake the boat suddenly slowed down and the bow dug in. We looked down to see that our dagger board had snapped. After looking at all the video (some not shown) as well as going over what happened...we came to the conclusion that there was a flaw in the dagger board that was compromised when we reached a certain speed.

The new board is in the mail.

  • so it was just the daggerboard? are parts readily available here in the us? (heard it was designed in NewZeland but made in China)

  • @neemguy81 while we were getting towed in, my fellow sailing instructor called the Hawaiian 'distributor' of the Wetas. It is a Kiwi boat made in China and there aren't enough Wetas on island to justify having extra parts avail. We actually are acting as a 'test group' for the boat considering how new it is. We got the daggerboard in about a week, just sailed it yesterday and felt great.

  • @windjunkie70 Kool deal, sounds like great fun...it looks as though your first board was just a foam laminant...i heard the ones they have now are carbon fiber...did you get that one for your second? I live in Tennessee and am considering getting something similar if not this boat, in a year or two.

  • @neemguy81 We actually did have the carbon fiber the first time, you cant see any of it in the underwater shot because of the angle of the board in the water...the new board we got though came from a better 'batch.'

I would highly recomend it. Its the fastest boat I've ever been on, its incredibly stable (we have yet to capsize it even with our screamin wind), and its easy/fun for all experience levels.

  • The same thing happened to me the other day. I am getting a new daggerboard on warranty, of course. It's a fabulous boat, but they should start building the daggerboards stronger.
