Michael Burritt (b.1962) has built a program of international distinction as the Director of Percussion Studies at Northwestern University. He has become one of the worlds leading percussion artists and teachers, frequently giving concerts and lectures throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia. In addition to performing and teaching, Mr. Burritts solo and chamber compositions have become staples in percussion literature.

The Offering (2001) was written for Professor Burritts grandparents in the weeks after the passing of his grandfather, serving as a means of emotional expression. With an overall tonality of C Major, The Offering freely explores closely related tonalities. Repeated eighth and sixteenth-note passages create unique sustaining qualities throughout the range of the instrument without the use of rolls.

  • what mallets are you using?

  • great, great performance

  • I'm currently working on this piece. What mallets did you use? They seem to work fairly well through the whole piece. I'm surprised they get so much fundamental out of the low register considering how articulate they are up high.

  • inspired

  • I love expressive wrist floating . I cant wait to enroll in percussion studio
