I was an armourer with 416 from 80-84. You fitters always tried to crash our parties, cause everybody knows no one parties like the animals in the bomb dump. And the ready birds in the "Q" belonged to us!
The CF just got rid of two 104's at AETE before I got there in early 85 and there were a few new CF18 's there to replace them . I would have loved to work on the J-79 engine ! At Chatham , we would have to do a burner run at night for a Q spare bird and the warrant told us just to pop it in and out to see if it lights fine . The corpral doing the run-up must have went into burner 10 times and the run-up pad was pointed directly at the trailer park PMQ's ! The warrant wanted to taste blood !
On a very cold day at the test cell in Chatham , there was one engine which put out 24,000 lb.s thrust ! I worked as a fitter also on the Voodoo and it was a great job constantly changing CSD's , MFC's ,ABFC's , engines and working in the engine bay . I left 416 in fall 1984 for AETE in Cold Lake Alberta .
Great fighter, one of the century series best. I've got a model of a CF-101 Voodoo in my collection. I think it looked a lot better in your alls colors than it did in ours in the States. Like the F-4 it was ahead of its time and protected our skies from those commie bastards.

My dad's name was Barny German. Sadly, he passed away in '79, while stationed in Comox. My mom's still there.

I worked as a fitter there too, left in '81 for Baden. Nothing like doing runups at the EPA spot! That really impressed the air travellers....
