If you keep your fig branches alive through the winter, you'll have fruit much sooner in the summer.

In this video, Chuck teaches you how to prevent die-back on a small fig.

  • If I understand this right, I do not have to worry about the fig as long as the temps are over 20 at night?

We bought a fig from you and are In Candler, NC and the tree is about 2' high right now and still has all the leaves and fruit on it.

    Thank you

  • @acer1966 Yes, that's true. We haven't wrapped our figs yet, but need to do so soon.

  • your 1st technique....couldn't be any worse, you'll kill that fig tree..plastic should never touch this tree..and technique 2 just as bad...sorry the black trash bag will just attact heat in the late winter early spring and cook the little guy..sorry guy 0 for 2!

  • @9razores Thanks for watching our video so closely - these techniques have worked well in our area for many years (close to Asheville NC).

One thing we didn't say in the video is to cover the figs once the temperatures start to dip below twenty, then uncover them as soon as nighttime temps stop dropping below twenty. This way they'll come out of dormancy naturally and won't "cook" the plants.

    What works for you?
