  • I agree about the tractor it would clearly be cheeper to have a 40-80 hp tractor to power the baler even a 1970/80 vintage one than 5 or 6 horses/mules and an engine. The emissions would also be less than that engine and 6 farting animals

  • @michealodonovan95 haha got to admit that was pretty funny:)

  • no, he was along with others that participated in this event (was not Amish). he had an awesome rig though and really seemed to know how to handle his team. Thanks for the question. wade yoder

  • What about brakes ? a baler is a heavy piece of kit

  • do these guys pay taxes?

  • @WadeYoder they are not any different than we are in reality I grew up by far more off the grid than my husband did living in remote part of Northern Ontario Canada with no neigbhours than he did his family has way more conveniences and money than mine ever did and they are the Mennonites...I grew up on moose meat, wild rabbit, partridge and fish or deer he didn't!

  • But it's true too like ffs were in 2011 steam tractors were here in the 1890s a pointless way of life it's more a cult than a community I supose there is no relations till after marriage though I suppose the wemon would make the sandwiches and stay at home

  • @remmidemmi01 it slows the high paced farming methods down and encourages more family help. Efficiency with less ;)

  • @lucy9359 Its a lifestyle that someone can (and some do) leave. The belief in some of the practices really doesn't have to do with it being wrong, "but simply in making a tight knit community". Easy access to transportation and communications can detract attention and time from the ones you should be building closer relationships with. I love knowing there is a group of people that can live off the grid "they do have good survival skills" ;)

  • If you fall off the machines, you'll get cut up to pieces!
