And what implications does that have for today? Don't you think Tibet is more free under Beijing's jurisdiction rather than as a subject of a theocratic state?

The old Chinese lady is wrong. Throughout the whole Qing Dynasty in China, there is no attack whatsoever initiated by Tibet. As a matter of fact, Nepal attacked Tibet and Tibet did seek military aid from the Qing Dynasty but giving military aid and governing Tibet are not equivalent. Tibet was considered a "subordinate" of the Qing Dynasty instead of part of China. She is the one who should go to the library and study history without the influence of China's propaganda.
