The Royal Academy of Arts in London was hosting the first major UK exhibition of Tamara de Lempicka's work, from June 2004 till end of August 2004.

Born Tamara Gorska in 1898, the artist fled to Paris with her husband in 1919. She became a member of the high society she captured on canvas and her time in France was the most successful and prolific of her career.

The period the Royal Academy focuses on is from 1922 to the early 1940s. 58 pictures have been borrowed from various private collectors and overseas museums.

Many of those on display epitomize the glamour of the era and there are a number of commissioned portraits of eminent Parisians.
