Dark Cloud - Dark Genie, Final Boss Battle (Part 2)

This Part is the actual fight against Dark Genie. As you know, Toan failed to change the past. So to save the future he must kill the Dark Genie. As far as battles go, this is generally not too hard a fight. But you MUST be preapred, or you will have no chance of winning. Since you don't actually save after winning (other than clear data), it's a good idea to spend lots of money on items to help. I suggest LOTS of Premium Chickens. Buy a decent amount of Repair Powders too. The other big items are Stand-In Powders and Revival Powders. I'd say 5 or more of each is good. A couple waters will be fine, at least one Dran Feather, and make sure you have as many Stamina Drinks as possible.

For weapons, you will really want one of Toan's Ultimate Weapons. I have his 7th Heaven Ultimate weapon. Stat wise, it doesn't max out at the best, but it's not maxed out yet. The only other Ally you'll want is Ruby. You can substitute Ruby for Xiao or Osmond, but I have a better weapon for Ruby. Also make sure you buy some Holy gems.

If you don't want to be spoiled for the fight and what happens, watch the video before reading this (just don't comment until reading description). For the first part of the fight the Dark Genie attacks you with his hands. There's an eye color on the hands you have to match with an element attribute, such as blue = ice, yellow = thunder, etc. But rather than having to change your weapons attribute everytime you attack, turn off attributes for the weapon and you'll be able to attack the arms. If you attack with the wrong element, it does no damage. Having no attributes does less damage, but less frustrating. Toan's all you'll need here. His only attack other than the arms is some impossible to avoid wind attack. It shouldn't hurt Toan too much.

The second part is annoying. You'll have to switch to Ruby/Xiao/Osmond, whoever is your best long range attacker, and start attacking the Genie's head. This is where you should spam Stamina Drinks, so you do more damage. Holy Attribute weapons are a good idea. He gains a laser attack, which is easy to avoid. He's open right after the laser. If he does the wind attack more than once in a row, that means you have to hit him. So to avoid getting hit a lot with that wind attack, I'd suggest tossing an attack at him after every move. For his laser, charge up the attack if you're using Ruby to do the most damage.

When you finish with Ruby, you'll probably cheer and pat yourself on the back for beating the Dark Genie. But instead of doing that, it's a better idea to switch in Toan and prepare him for one last battle. Instead of the game ending, the Dark Genie's, from what I can tell, real form pops out from the darkness (and damn does that thing freak the shit out of me). If you don't know what you're doing the fight will end in 5 seconds. The Dark Genie will now fire a giant red laser that follows you. It'll OHKO most allies, and two hit kill Toan. It's multi hitting too, so if you get hit, expect to die. But that's why you should have bought Stand-in Powders and Revival Powders.

The target in this fight is the mouth. When it opens its mouth, attack it. Watch out for its arms. Everytime you attack the mouth, it'll smack an arm down and open its mouth again. You can use this to loop it. Of course, I missed once or twice. Also, I pressed some wrong buttons near the beginning because I was too used to KH2FM's camera control. But winning this wins you the game, and unlocks the 100 level optional dungeon (I'm not doing it anytime soon).

For the record, having a leveled up Ruby would make this fight go faster. I never really leveled her though, so that's why her part took so long.

Man this is the FIRST game I have ever liked so much that I accually shed a tear upon beating the Dark Genie. For a game that came out pretty much when the PS2 was released, this has to be one of the best old platform RPG games ever made.

You should have used Xiao instead of Ruby for that second part of the battle.

I love the music that plays during the fight with the Dark genie's first form. Its gives the feeling of epicness to the player.
