Hydrogen via electrolysis / gasoline equivalence.

My Toyota's output is 150 hp (111,855 Joules Per Second), with an efficiency of about 33%. Therefore, at full fuel consumption (foot on pedal, climbing hill, barely moving 1 meter per second up the hill), the engine needs AT LEAST 338,951 Joules Per Second in fuel.

On a leval surface my pickup maintains 55 M.P.H. using 42 horsepower. That uses 31,319 Joules per second. Gasoline has 129,461,090 Joules per gallon; my pickup will use APROXIMATELY one gallon in 4,134 seconds (1.15 hours) ON A LEVEL SURFACE GOING 55 MPH.

In the real world, my pickup must climb hills and it does that very poorly: it consumes more than 1 gallon per hour, and I drive faster than 55 miles-per-hour.

Hydrogen cannot cheaply meet the demand when it is produce via photovoltaic panels and electrolysis.

  • @mthemaniac ; Yes indeed, I am obnoxious. :-) I have worked very hard at it.

  • Oh, did anybody catch the connection in the comments about solar panels and overnight charging of the batteries? Uhm... love to see solar cells efficient enough to work IN THE DARK!

  • ROTFL! That was one reason why I marked the video down as one to make a reply about. I loved the *BLUSH* the clown made when he said it.

  • you know you kind of sound like a nut case..but you make A LOT of sense. keep it up.

  • kiss my ass dude

  • Just a bit of trival triva; There are inherent laws to be recognized: Wattage=Voltage x Current and/or 746 watts= 1 Horsepower. Just my two cents!

  • oi, elvis, leave it out

  • In many cities, methane is piped into homes for domestic heating and cooking purposes. In this context it is usually known as natural gas, and is considered to have an energy content of 39 megajoules per cubic meter, or 1,000 BTU per standard cubic foot.

  • (16.0 g/mol) divided by the heat of combustion (891 kJ/mol) shows that methane, being the simplest hydrocarbon, produces more heat per mass unit than other complex hydrocarbons.
