44 second film clip, black & white/silent, of a derailed Alaska Railroad steam engine being dug out of the snow, and a steam shovel and steam crane brought in to assist. Possibly an avalanche caused the derailment. From the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska & Polar Regions Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks.

  • Thank you for sharing this film with all of us. Wakens the senses of how hard RR work was then with the steamers and then having to shovel and shovel to clear the tracks and derailments. Those men worked darn hard for making maybe $2 to 5 a day. That would be 8-14 hours a day on the RR. If you have any more please share, as these are very well liked.

    Thank you again.

  • Wow, that's goint to take more than a little push to get back on track.
