Several years ago the Government of Lao PDR decided to focus on hydropower as one of the promising options to accelerate the country's economic growth and reduce poverty. This is how Nam Theun 2 was born. The project combines an ambitious commercial venture with a unique development effort aimed at helping Lao PDR to overcome persistent poverty. Nam Theun 2 includes the development, construction, and operation of a power plant that uses water from the Nam Theun River, in Central Lao PDR, as well as arrangements for locally affected people to benefit from the project. The project will enable Lao PDR to export 1,070 Megawatts of electricity to neighboring Thailand and also supply 75 Megawatts of electricity for domestic use. Electricity sales to Thailand will bring in around 2 billion dollars over 25 years. This money is earmarked for poverty reduction and environmental protection across the country.
laughters and smiles are always shown on Lao people's faces, regardless which circumstaces they're in.
