My third chainsaw carving. Like the previous Tawny Owl this one came out of a big log of spalted Birch. Some minor errors aside, am happy with the end-result. Still don't have a smaller chainsaw as of yet, so I have to use my Dremel with engraving bits to finish it up.
This carving was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands.
There where some pieces of Berch lying around wich I could use. They where left in the rain for about half a year, wich give the typical fungee change to get into the wood. The black 'spalted' lines in the wood are the fungee strains. If you happen to sand it, wear a mask cause it's toxic.
Very nice where did you get that spalted berch?
