My third chainsaw carving. Like the previous Tawny Owl this one came out of a big log of spalted Birch. Some minor errors aside, am happy with the end-result. Still don't have a smaller chainsaw as of yet, so I have to use my Dremel with engraving bits to finish it up.

This carving was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands.

  • Very nice where did you get that spalted berch?

  • There where some pieces of Berch lying around wich I could use. They where left in the rain for about half a year, wich give the typical fungee change to get into the wood. The black 'spalted' lines in the wood are the fungee strains. If you happen to sand it, wear a mask cause it's toxic.

  • Have you done anymore carvings since? if so is there any chance you could post them?? thanks... great work by the way!!!

  • Thx! I'm currenty working on a Dragon's head. I finished the rough cut last Sunday, and I will try and finish it this, or next sunday. :)

  • That's only your third time carving? Wow, you're pretty good. Keep at it, and you'll be making some amazing works...
