@hoysome I'd buy yourself a MCPX or an easystar and keep going. Very small investment ... small plane to fly around. FPV is very expensive right now, but it'll be standard soon.

I haven't flown my planes in 3 years now, since I moved out west for work. Now with a baby on the way I probably wont get back into FPV. It was fun while it lasted :)

@fabiodvmaker GPS signal ....

@BigCatsWildlife There have been flights of up to 20 miles recorded at least .... probably further look up "nastycop420" on youtube he has or had the long range FPV record. The terrain is also critical.

@hoysome There are two methods that we use as FPV pilots
1) RSSI a measure of signal strength taken at the antenna can be used to point the antenna in the right direction.
2) A GPS signal from the plane is sent back via the video channel to tell us the GPS position of the plane then the antenna knowing its position can track the plane.

@hoysome What is the range between the ground tracking system and the gps aboard the plane? I know this helps the range for the camera system on the plane but in order for the tracking antenna to follow the plane the gps has to tell it where it is, how far can it do that? Thanks

Great speed !!
I'm looking for something like that to make a satellite tracking system too.
With readout display it would make a nice tool to aim small antenna's

not a big deal...
Whats shown here was just a pan and tilt setup. there is no tracking computer at this point. However, since this time a few of the FPV community members have come out with hardware that tracks the planes, based on GPS data sent to the ground station via an audio stream from the onboard video transmitter.
