@DREADS613 He certainly went through A LOT that year. What a player. Thank you for your response. It is so nice (and unfortunately rare) to get a well-reasoned friendly response to a comment on YouTube! You have renewed my faith in humanity! (a little :0)
@stormcrow7878 I meant "slowed down" in that sense, worn out. He just had so much to go through that year. If it wasn't for the winning streak the Pens were on at the end of the season & his scoring championship race w/ Lafontaine, he would have been rested before the playoffs. In retrospect that might have been the way to go, but no way you could have denied him that scoring championship & the 17 game winning streak. He was too driven to show he was the best & beat that disease. Rambling... x2
@DREADS613 |It wasn't so much that Mario "slowed down", his back injury was his undoing (I also think that after Cancer treatment, he was more "worn out and hurt" than just your average "slow down". I was at game 4 of that series at the Nassau Coliseum, and what a game it was. OK I'm rambling
@stormcrow7878 I could not agree more with your assessment of the 92-93 team. It's a shame that Mario slowed down in the Playoffs that year. Truly amazing year by #66.
when the coaches shook hands, The good sportsmanship between the hawks and the pens, i am a hawks fan, and it sucked to lose but atleast the teams were good sports :)
Even as a Rangers fan, the Pens teams in the early 90's were so much fun to watch. If you love hockey, you loved watching those teams play. It was a shame that they had a chance to be a dynasty, and blew it. That 92-93 team had 4 100 point guys, 6 80 point guys, and 8 60 point guys. But they only had 10 good (great)players. They relied to heavily on their top 2 lines & when Mario was banged up in postseason (after having the greatest 60 games in history) they couldn't get it done.

@stormcrow7878 Not only that, but the Pens also got too cocky and it proved to be their undoing against the Islanders.
