Actually, Taupin decided to write a lyric that was *mostly* meaningless, but sprinkled with the names of various fish and with a description of teatime.

Thank you much for the memory. I ll be 50 in 2 weeks. Played this every day after school in 1974. I remember it like yesterday. We would read the lyrics and watch the turntable Too bad Elton turned out to be sooo strange. He says hes happy but he's not fooling anyone. His husband is so bizarre. He just stares at Elton in total idolatry. That isn't love. It's a daddy/ boy fixation.

Bernie Taupin would write the lyrics and Elton would have to use them as written. Me thinks Bernie was putting Elton up to a challenge which he met quite well! LOL!
