A clock radio that becomes a portable--and back again! I've had this in my collection for a few years now. There are two versions of the Convertible, and I think this one's the more attractive of the two.

Comes in two sections--the portable and the alarm clock/power supply unit. Both are mated via a slide strip mounted in the back. The slide carries both the A and B voltage supplied by the clock unit.

To use the portable by itself, you simply move the slide switch and the radio is back on battery--free to take anywhere you want. Reattach and you can wake up to music. Both units can be operated independent of one another.

I had to replace all the electrolytics and replace the selenium rectifier with a silicon diode. Only thing I didn't do properly was select the proper filament voltage dropping resistor. I overcompensated and installed one higher than necessary, effectively starving the portable. I need to lower the ohmmage and make it play better.
